Best Success Story

FCH JU 2020 awards presented at European Hydrogen Week

The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU), a unique public private partnership supporting research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) activities in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe, presented the 2020 FCH JU Awards at the European Hydrogen Week (23 – 27 November).
This year’s #BestSuccessStory goes to advanced tools for better-performing stationary fuel-cell systems to allow quick problem solutions, receiving over 60% of the votes in its category. These success stories show how collaboration between research, industry and policymakers in a European partnership delivers the best innovation and accelerates society’s transition to a greener world.
A series of FCH JU projects (D-CODE, DESIGN, DIAMOND, GENIUS, HEALTH-CODE, INSIGHT and now RUBY) have developed IT-based tools that quickly detect faults in fuel-cell stacks.

EIFER contributes to many of these projects, namely: RUBY, H-CODE, D-CODE, GENIUS and DESIGN dealing with 2 different technologies: proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). EIFER was involved in the characterization either at stack and system (UPS, µCHP) level through Electrochemical Impedence Spectroscopy (EIS) under faulty (non-optimal) conditions with the goal to develop diagnostic and prognostic algorithms and control strategies to improve system availability, efficiency and decrease maintenance cost.
We are very happy to contribute to these projects and to boost the reliability of stationary fuel-cell systems, facilitate their maintenance and reduce associated costs.
