HyQuality Europe was launched in January 2023 with the aim to move forward the risk assessment approach that offers cost reduction to the current prescriptive at the hydrogen refueling stations. Towards this target, it is envisaged to perform 300 spot sampling, implement online monitoring of impurities and create an open source database that visualize online the impurities concentration evolution, among others.

The first spot sampling took place on May 16th at the hydrogen Station of Saint Priest is part of the Zero Emission Valley Project and is own by HYPULSION S.A. and operated by GNVert (subsidiary of ENGIE group). The sampling was performed by ENGIE, partner in the consortium, at the nozzle feed with a pressure of 700 bar using their developed sampling bench.  This is the first data set that will populate the first European database created within HyQuality Europe. Emeline BULOT, Mathilde RIZAND and Etienne BASSET performed the sampling and analysis.

In parallel, preparative work for risk assessment approach is ongoing by providing a hydrogen sampling sheet and questionnaire that is sent to Hydrogen refueling station operators. The open source database has been designed to offer an online visualization of the impurities concentration evolution. Hydrogen refueling stations of Vannes for consortium partners ENGIE and Auxerre for EIFER, for example, will be equipped with an online monitoring system in the upcoming months. New impurities and intercomparing studies will be performed with cylinders prepared by consortium partner NPL and shipped to project partners.  Finally, members of the consortium participated to the ISO TC197 that took place in Oslo in June 2023.
